Hello all,
I have a big problem with my Navision native database Attain 3.60. I´ve 12GB splitted in several files on RAID 1. I was working with this size a long time without problems with 80% of use. Yeterday the system tells me that is using 100%. I tried to increase several times but it doesent work. Now the database size is near to 36GB but still on 100%.
What can I do?, since I didn´t notice any workload to this database
Thanks in advance

You might want to follow the procedure in the Installation and System Management Guide re: expanding a production db:To expand a working database we recommend that you follow this procedure:
1) Use the backup function in Navision Attain to make a complete backup of your database.
2) Make sure that you are the only client connected to the database.
3) Create the new database that you want to restore the backup into. Remember that you cannot restore a backup into a database that contains data.
4) Create all the other database files on the other hard disks. Remember that all the database files must be the same size.
5) Close and reopen the database. This will ensure that the server rebuilds the list of free blocks in the database.
6) Restore the database backup that you created earlier. The database is now spread evenly across all the database files and you will get the best performance from your database.0 -
ok, I´ve tried to make a full backup using Navision function, but Navision doesn´t let me, because it needs more database size to perform the task and the backup aborts.
Do you have any idea??
Thanks again...0 -
Just a couple of ideas....
Have you tried stopping the navision server service, and opening the DB in single user mode
Or
Disabling the commit cache on the server service and /or client before attempting the backup
Good luck0 -
Hi dlago,
open the database in "local" mode and use the parameter "databasereadonly=yes" to make your backup.
hope that helps,

Hi dlago,
I have experienced 100% database size problems a number of times.
Our analysis of this an appearent corruption occurring when the server has stopped with multiple sessions open, but other causes might exist
If this is the case (so if you are sure you'r data does not actually come upto 100% ) I have an "Out of the box thinking" solution that might to the trick.
You'll have to force Navision into "rebuilding free blocks" mode. (So it will recalculate the actual databasesize correctly)
Follow these steps to try this (AT YOUR OWN RISK)
1. Stop Navision database server if it is running.
2. Copy all databasefiles (might be single file) to a backup location (if you have enough space).
3. Start Navision Client , open the database (directly, not through service)
4. Use Taskman to kill Navision Client -> this will mark the database files as "possible corrupt".
5. Start Navision Client again, open the database (again directly) and Navision will start rebuilding free blocks
6. Wait and see, you may even [-o< if you think it helps.
and ofcourse [-X :
If this succeeds you will have the opportunity to create a new backup and restore it to a clean environment to repair any other damage present.
Good luck, hope this helps.
