Kitting and Reservation entries

I've created an item PROMO in our test environment and tied a kit to it using the kitting tab and selected automatic build kit (as I want this built automatically). Kit BOM has been set up with two items. I then create a sales order and enter the PROMO item and select 1 for qty. Hit F11 and select ship. I then get a message Item No. must be PROMO in Reservation entry, Entry No= 123456, Positive="yes", and cannot continue.

What I was hoping would happen is that the order would ship, and pull the two component items out of inventory (in the background). We do not want nor need the component items to show on the sales order (even on screen). Any ideas on how to get around the reservation entry issue.

Also, when going into the KIT BOM screen and doing a list, the production BOM list comes up instead of listing just the kit BOMS (the kit BOMS are nowhere to been seen). I understand that kitting/production share the same tables. My NAV partner says that MS did a horible job with regards to kitting in this version and that mod's are required.
