Hi again mibuso forums. I'm looking for a barcode scanner/reader that I could use at home, possibly using a usb port.

I would love to hear some suggestions for which one you think is great, cuz I'm looking for something inexpensive but reliable and could read all barcode symb.

 thank you

1D or 2D codes? (just plain linear or 2D like matrix and PDF barcodes?) On this depends if you will buy laser one or imager one. In most cases we are using for our customers the Motorola barcode scanners. But for home usage it is just question of offer of your local shops.

Whats the use of it? Do you just want to test? Then i would suggest http://www.bctester.de/! (read barcodes out of image files, very useful!)
Your smartphone of choice should be capable of scanning too ;)

Hey thanks for the replies guys.

I was thinking of both, but I don't believe that is possible is one scanner, atleast one that isn't expensive.

I was thinking of using this scanner by motorola, its a 1D linear scanner, and apparently many were sold and people like them:

What do you think about it? and thanks for the link to http://www.bctester.de, I'll give it a try :D

No problem with this scanner. we are using them for customers. I think that there are cheaper variants from other vendors too, which you can use. Of course, imager scanner can scan both types of barcodes.

I was wondering if you could help me scan a barcode I created because I don't have a scanner at the moment and the image scanner program won't scan it for some reason(if it wouldn't be any trouble to you that is)

I'll upload it here :) I still have no idea why the one I made won't scan using the image scanner tho :-k

*Attached is the barcode I made which won't scan* please help

Thanks man  I got to get me a smart phone some day lol.

Any idea why it was not reading as a UPC barcode in that program? It kept reading as a Interleaved 2/5 barcode, like wut the heck?

I hope the barcodes I create doesn't cause barcode scanning errors when other people's scanners read it [-(

nevermind, I got it to read using that program. It was just a misread, possibly caused by the way I cropped the pic #-o
