Is it possible to restore backup on already existing backup?

Hi all,

I have created a database named LIVE and I have restored the backup.But client was using the existing one and not the LIVE database.So now I need to only take the backup of datas from the Old NAV DB and restore it in new LIVE database, Is it possible to do this ?

If anyone knows the steps involved in doing this , kindly let me know.

What if you take whole backup from existing and restore in LIVE as user has not used it?

Hi mohana_cse06,

No Mohana the scenario is like this.Today I have created a new DB by taking the backup from the old DB but the client wants to use the new DB from Monday onwards. So they are telling they can use the old DB only for tomoro and from monday onwards they will start using the new DB.So What I need to do is I want to take the backup of only data from the old db and restore it in new db.

So I am thinking of unselecting the option Application objects and select only The data common to all companies and take the backup from old DB and restore it in new DB. Is this method advisable or some other method is recommended.

Hi Mohana ,

But is it necessary to rename the current company to some other name and after restoring the backup , we need to change it to original name.

Am I correct ?

yes, you are correct.
A company cannot be restored if the company already exists under the same name.

Delete the companies (Only Companies from Classic) and restore..
