populating dropdown list using c/al code

Hi,
Is it possible to populate a dropdown list using c/al code? I have a situation where i need to get values from a non PK field. I tried using tablerelation but i'm getting multiple duplicate values. Is there a way to make the values distinct? like group by in sql?
Ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
