I believe RTC only works with Windows logins, but I could be wrong.

That means RTC can only work in a domain setup.

We cannot have the traditional way of creating users in SQL and accessing the database using a FinSql Client.

So set it up in a domain, and use Windows Logins.

    .

not necessarly. You can use windows users and you don't need active directory.

I believe in future version sql will remove db authentication.

in the windows login enter \Windowsusername <- this is the local windows user name if you doesn't have a domain.

This i would only use if i have one or two users who use NAV and the firm is so little that he doesn't need a domain.
If the firm is larger, a domain shauld also use (so with an AD you have a lot of benefits
Do you make it right, it works too!

I am still not able to connect to RTC Client. I followed following steps.

Step 1 :- I connected network through LAN.
Step 2 :- I created a new window User ID in Server , named "userid" which is identical to my local system user id "userid".
Step 3 :- Then I created a new userid in SQL server, named "servername\userid".Its a window Login id on SQL Logins.
Step 4:- Loged in NAV through classic and created "servername\userid" in NAV and then synched with SQL.
Step 5:- Then I tried to connect RTC from my local system and get an error (User ID and Password is not correct).
Step 6:- Tried to connect through NAV Classic by selecting Window Login option then also i got same error.

I need help, how to create user id for window login if Network is not domain based.

    Thanks in advance.

I suggest to do exe upgrade to R2, where it opens a authentication dialog to allow you to login when not in your domain.

    It's possible in R2 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg502476.aspx
