I've seen that message when I wanted to upgrade a version of the server software. I'd uninstall the old service, and then install the new one with the same name without rebooting in between.
The way that I made that work is to uninstall the old one, reboot, and install the new one.
Don't know if that helps, but it's what I remember of that particular message.0 -
well the thing is, there is no 'old' service.. it's only the new one.. (with that name.. there are a LOT of other navision services running)0

Because of the message "The specified service has been marked for deletion.", I suggest you reboot the system. If that does not work, try using a different service name.No support using PM or e-mail - Please use this forum. BC TechDays 2024: 13 & 14 June 2024, Antwerp (Belgium)0

i actually managed to reboot the server, but it still says the same thing

I've also seen problems where you get errors like that if the installed version of the client software is not the same as the server version. You said you have multiple Navision servers installed, so that may be the problem.0

well it has one 4.00 version running aswell, so why wouldnt this one work.. sigh0

With all the local DB's (of different versions) on my portable, I always use a service for each of them, because it works better.
So when I wanted to install the 4.0, I had the same problem, rebooted, retried and so on.
The best way to do it is to run the "server.exe .... installasservice"-command more than once. If you get the error, retry again. After a few failures, it installs the service.
PS check in the services-file that you have a unique port.Regards,Alain Krikilion

i tried dozen of times.. and yeah, the port is unique

Hi!
I have not seen this problem before, but after a uppgrade from 2.60 to 4.00.01 on a Win 2000 server I have the same problem.
I have tried to uninstall the service and reboot the Machine, but I still kan install a service from command prompt. ](*,)
But it works fine to install the first service from setup.exe. 8-[
Anyone have a work around solution for this?0 -
mrQQ, do you do the uninstallation via an MMC or via the command prompt?
the only time i have this error is when i do the uninstallation of the service with the services screen open. This services screen holds a lock
on the Services database of windows. When you close the screen the lock is lifted and the services is gone. There is absolutely NO NEED to reboot a system after installing or uninstalling a navision service.
Try to do the uninstallation with the services screen closed, and if this doesn't help, do the uninstallation via the command prompt.
Hope this helps!
Regards,Now, let's see what we can see.

I have just installed a service. I'm sure you know this but make sure your server has a unique name especially if you have many services running. Also once you have installed the service use this command prompt:
net start "servername"
This should start the service from command prompt. Version 4.0 is a little specific compared to other versions.
Give it a whirl0 -
