Is it possible to have a different user profile per company. e.g. User 1 is Accounting Manager in Company A but is Sales Order Processor in Company B?.
User would be prevented from logging in to Company B as Accounting Manager.
This seems as though it should be a fairly common requirement and fairly straightforward but I cannot find any information on how to do this.

It's not. At least not that I know of. And the primary key of the User Personalization table is the user sid. It would be fairly easy to customize this, though. You can find the forum post / blog entry (I think it was Waldo, but I might be wrong) where you customize it to select a role when you login. It's not too much of a stretch to see how you could customize it the way you are describing.0
