Number of users per service tier service?

I'm about to start using 2009 R2 RTC (over LAN). Do you have advice on how many users one service tier service will typically cope with? I've seen various numbers from 20 to 65. My database has 32 concurrent users.

I think it's 50 users concurrent and active users.

But that number is subjective and a lot depends on what the users are doing.

I posed this question to the Technical Advisory Group at Microsoft some time ago. They said 25 to 40 user per service tier. But also admitted that there has been no real load testing done. I've also hear numbers as high as 100 users.
