un-assemble/disassemble a finished good

If a part gets returned to us, and it is either defective or discontinued, but it contains several valuable piece parts that can be salvaged, what's the best process in Nav to handle this?
Ideally I would have a production order that consumes just the top-level item, and outputs all the pieces. I don't think this is possible however... I believe every line on the production order needs to have consumption and output. Any ideas?

There's no disassembly in the production BOM. You'll need to do inventory adjustments.Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog
