Well, I'd say poor show from MS - Balmer style. Describing something as new what was there for years and naming it "R2" just because it shows the login screen and enables SSL communication is selling rather than developing. With a WAN bandwidht of 10/10Mb I could demonstrate the same thing with the classic client in NAV4 (without the "middle" tier). And what puzzles me most is the role of the App-V server. They say it opens new business opportunities for partners. I'd say it ruins the current ones by making app. administration obsolete! But even though, why would someone not want to have the client installed localy? It's free!
Oh yeah and another thing, first they say it's intended only for occasional remote users (you know the boss looks up the sales report from his yacht, the accountant cheks the G/L balances from Hawaii,...) but in the next slide they again see great business potential for hosting companies delivering rich user experience for NAV! What now?
I'm getting a little bit worried what kind of people are laying their hands on something that once was a great product but is now heading to share the fate of Windows or Office...
p.s. - You don't need a SSL connection in NAV when you are connecting from a remote location. Just use the MS VPN feature included in every MS Server and desktop software. :-#0
