Any setup required on server to use ODBC

When I configure the system data source to connect to the SQL server in ODBC Administration I typed in the server name exactly as I see it in the Open Database screen when in NAV. But when I select the database i don't anything. Are there any setup required on the server for ODBC connection? Or are there any special permissions that needs to be granted in order to connect? This is for NAV 5.0 SP1. I believe the database is running on Windows Server 2003 R2.

I assume you are using the MS SQL database. Of course, before selecting database, you need to setup the permission for the account you will use to connect. Setting permission inside NAV is not enough, if you need to access data from outside, the account must have directly assigned rights on the SQL.0
