Find & Replace on Dot and Star characters

From a Run on a table, we can use the functionality Find & Replace.
But ... when you put . (dot) or * (star) in the field "Find what", the field "replace with" becomes anavailable.

Any trick to avoid that ? We have to replace all dots in "Phone No." (table Contact) with another character ...

    On first consideration, I would think you'd need to do this in code now. In code, you still cannot search/filter on "." or "*", but you should be able to examine each field though a repetative loop and determine if the characters exist by reading their ASCII values instead.

    REPEAT
    IF STRPOS(test.desc,'.') > 0 THEN BEGIN
    test.desc := CONVERTSTR(test.desc,'.','*');
    or
    test.desc := DELCHR(test.desc,'=','.');

    test.modify;
    END
    UNTIL test.NEXT = 0;

    Can you not just use a dataport to export, change the data in excel say and then re-import?
