Hi,
One of our clients is having a problem. They are using a Laptop imported from China.
When the user opens Navision & tries to connect to the Navision server gets an error message "The double-byte character set, code 950 on your computer is not supported by this version of Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision". The client is using Windows XP & has installed navision 3.7 on the laptop.
Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Go to the Advanced Tab and check if in the Code page conversion tables
the 950 (ANSI/OEM - Traditional Chinese Big5) is checked.
if not try to install it or reinstall the laptop with a English XP version.

Looking good!
I have already asked the user to check his Regional & Languafe options & check if in Code Page Conversion Table any chinese option is ticked. Anyways, I will ask him again.
Thanks a lot for your response. But besides re-installing Xp is there any other option ?

I got a solution from Microsoft Support.
Every client/language folder has fin.stx file. This file contains all the application/system related entries. One of the entries is listed below
// The following entry is for double-byte character set (DBCS) clients (code pages 932, 936, 949, 950)
// A value of 0 indicates that a client DBCS is disallowed
// A value of 1 indicates that a client DBCS is allowed, provided that the database code page is a non-DBCS code page
00093-00400-010-2: 0
What we do is that we change the flag to 1 The problem is that the file needs to be re-compiled and at the moment, only Global Development Team Members are able to compile the file.
I have requested them for the compiled file and attached you will find the file for W1 370. You would need to do the following steps to replace the file:
1) Go to Client machine
2) Close all navision application
3) Go to the folder where you have installed navision client
4) first backup fin.smt and fin.stx in the client and all language folder and only then delete fin.smt and ftn.stx file.
5) Copy the attached file into the folder/s
6) Run the application
After this, you should not have any problems running codepage 95
I do not know how to attach the W1 370 file that I have received. If anyone needs this file then please contact me on rajani_sid@hotmail.com
