Performance Client computer slower then Terminal server

Dear all,

I am wondering why a client is quicker on a Terminal server than a workstation. ](*,)
Does anyone know? #-o

The hardware specs are almost the same. The CPU is not noticeable used, also the HDD system and memory.

The only noticeable difference is that I see a longer network traffic (with the same bandwidth utilization) on the workstation than on the server.

Are there any tricks to boost the client performance. I was thinking about IP packet size changing etc :-k .

    Most often Terminal Servers are connected to the SQL server via a 1gig connection, where the clients are on slower networks.

    What is the speed of the client network connection?

    When connecting from the client, are they all on the same local network, or is this wide area network (different facilities). Once you go outside of the facility, terminal services/citrix is the only way to go.

    It is on the same network and both machines are connected on the same 1Gbyte switch.

    Does a Quad core Or Dual core make a different ?

    Can you quote the measured performance differences, or is this a gut feeling type of faster?

    For example when a user opens a calculation sheet, this takes 1 second \:D/ on the temrinal server and 3 seconds on the workstation. #-o
    One other thing I noticed on the terminal server after a second it opens direct, and on the pc you get the grey backgound and then the fields come in (after 3 seconds).

    That looks very much like a network issue to me. The client download the objects first and builds a form. Then has to transfer the records from the server to the client. Are you certain that you are not trying to connect over the VPN.

    How close is the Navision server to the client?

    Actually do this. What is the name of the Navision server?You can find this in Navision in File Database Properties. Let say the server is "MyNavSQLServer" open a DOS prompt and enter

    tracert MyNavSQLServer

    this will show if the Server is on the local network or located somewhere else.
