Can we change GL accounts group with entries

If we had defind the GL account in one group of chart of account and posted some entries for that account.
Now I want to change the that account to another group.
For that i will create new account in new group and transfer the amount by JV and block the old one.
But can I transfer the entries posted in previous account to new account? like in Tally.

Why not just renumber the old g/l account - this will restamp all the history and links.
