Howdy all! Can anyone help me on this:
'The database file cannot be used with this version of the program.'
This message appears everytime i try to open a working database from a client of ours. It was copied unto a hard drive, then i connected it to my PC and tried to open it to no avail. Tried different licenses and other databases coming from our client work with our system. Anyone have any ideas to what could cause this? :?:

The database is for another version of client.
It means that you are trying open database from 3.70 open with 4.00 etc. You must know, which version of client is your customer using and use the same version...
May be, that someone before you opened the database with newer client and clicked Yes when the version update dialog come to screen...0 -
Thanks for you prompt reply kine, we are only using one version (3.60). Same version is used with our client.. and their other databases can be opened except for this particular database. There should be no version issues here.0

It can be possible... you client can download demo version of Navision 4.00 and run it and try open the database... or someone from your company... 8)0

Hi!
It may be that you are using different hotfixes for 3.60? A database openned in some later versions of 3.60 will not go back and open in earlier ones.
Check the build number on the clients that work & do not work. Also, you must check that the client software you are trying to use is up to the same hotfix as the server software the database was running on.
There is also the possibility that someone openned the database in 3.70 or later before you tried... ](*,)Edward Bloomfield

3.70 does not change the DB Verion identification - Only 3.70A and after yes...
You can still open 3.60 DB with 3.70 and back 3.70 DB in 3.60 client...0 -
Have you broken the database down into multiple files? If so, there are a variety of ways to get this error message.
1. You opened one of the files that was not the first one listed sequentially in File->Database->Expand->Advanced.
2. You changed directories by copying all of the database files into the file instead of creating a new, clean database and restoring everything into the new database. If you just copy the files to a directory and try to run by loading the first database file, the database file will load, then try to run the files from the original directory.
If you want to know how I know this, I'm guilty of doing both.
Hope this helps.0 -
Check the following at both your site and at the client's site:
Click help, about, then double click on the version number to find out the build number.
At least you can verify that the executables are exactly the same.
