Navision 3.6 Block problem

I have a client who is using NAV3.6. He has very good servers to run his database/Navision server and also a decend server for his terminal needs. The DBMS Cache is set to 700000 (700MB) and the size of the database is 50GB on the native navision database.
A month ago started a major issue that we havent managed to solve. The problem is that the clients are working slower than they used to and during posting process the "blocked by user" on the lower left appears constantly and i takes around 25 minutes for a client to get unblock and post.
My client checked his servers condition, bandwidth, CPU utilization and every looks fine. He has only 45 concurrent licenses.
Anyone can help????
Thanks

To check:
-Did some programs change at that moment?
-Did they change some setup or way of working? E.g. first they posted a document with 10 lines at a time and now they do 10000 lines at a time.
-Check if the COMMIT-cache is enabled.
-Is it always the same user that blocks the others? In this case, check what that user is doing when he is blocking the others. Maybe he has a (very) slow computer or his computer has some problem.Regards,Alain Krikilion

Start with the hardware: describe the EXACT configuration details.David Singleton0 -
The Commit Cache is disabled. Should it be enabled?
One of my first remmendations was to check if a computer runs slow over the network but they came back negative.
A new lisence with added tables added 2 months ago but i havent had any problems while installing.
They still post the same amount of lines.0 -
Both the Terminal and the Database server are hosted by a Intel Xeon at 3.2GHz, 4 GB of RAM, 6 SCSI hard disks on RAID 1 and 5, and 2GB ethernet.
All the computers that working with the client are Intel Code Duo with 1 GB of RAM0 -

Raid 5 is for recovering and protection. Also on database there is a RAID 10 which a combination of stripping and mirroring.0

Start with enabling the COMMIT-cache!
Some other questions:
I didn't understand the RAID you have for the DB-file(s).
How many DB-files do you have? How big are they? On which drive(s) are they? Which RAID you have for them?
How full is the DB in %?Regards,Alain Krikilion

Sorry, wrong question... what is saved on the RAID 5? Which data are there? From your answer I understand, that the database is on RAID 10. BUt still, there is no clear picture of your HW and configuration of it...0

Hi Katashiki.
You need to start at the beginning. I you want help to figure this out ou need to stop keeping things secret. We can't just play a game of 20 questions. Please describe the EXACT configuration of the server. If you don;t knwo, then almost certainly the server is incorrectly configured. And so far it looks like it.
Of course it does not mean that the hardware is 100% of the issue, but it really does look like it is part of the issue. That 50gig database on native should be split over 5-10 database parts, that means 10-20 drives in raid 1, which clearly you don't have.
If you want help you have to give information.David Singleton0 -
Database Used is 37GB
Database Size is 50GB
DBMS Cache 700MB
Commit Cache is disabled
Object Cache 8M
The database server consists of 6 SCSI hard drives.
Two for the OS RAID 1
Four HD for the database one partition RAID 10 ( 1-3 mirrored, 2 -4 mirrored, and 1,2,3,4 Stripped).
Dear David you mentioned that the 50GB should be split over to 5 to 10 db parts. Is that posible to break the database to parts? If yes how can i do it?
I will try enabling the Commit Cache to see if that helps.
Thanks0 -
Enable the cache for a start, that will make a huge difference.
But you need to get RAID 1 arrays. you want between 5 and 10 gig per drive. so with your 37 gig, you could use 8 drives split to 4 RAID1s at the minimum but more would be better.
Just craete a backup, and build a new database with more parts. You should contact your partner to help you with this if you don't know how to do it. Its not the sort of thing you want to learn about on a live system.David Singleton0
