New Release Date for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.1

The new release date for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.1 has been changed to Q4 CY2008.

The development effort behind the delivery of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.1 is significant. While bringing valuable usability and productivity gains to customers, the development work requires real architectural change.

Given the strong Microsoft Dynamics NAV ISV ecosystem, we have engaged ISVs early in the development of this product. Together we have concluded that we can bring important improvements to the product by extending the release date.

By continuing our work we can improve the performance, overall quality and perhaps most importantly, maintain the “simplicity” of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Simplicity has been the hallmark of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, and we want to ensure that simplicity is present when implementing and migrating to the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.1 release.

Thus, we have made the decision to extend the final release date to Q4 CY2008 to ensure we deliver on all three of these tenets – performance, quality, simplicity.

We also plan to deliver a Technical Preview to our entire partner community in H1 CY2008 to allow more time for preparation for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.1.

New code name and final naming
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.1 will be much more than just an extension to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0. It is based on a new breakthrough technology platform that will take the product into the future. To communicate the significance of this release, we are pleased to announce the new code name for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.1: Microsoft Dynamics NAV “6.0”.

On final release, we intend to take a leading and very important first step toward aligning Microsoft Dynamics with other significant Microsoft products, such as Office 2007, by introducing year versioning.

Breakthrough innovation with Microsoft Dynamics NAV “6.0”
One of the most significant innovations in this release is the new three-tier architecture. With this architecture we enable the new Microsoft Dynamics RoleTailored Client. It will present data with a ground-breaking user experience, such as the user experience in Microsoft Office 2007 that gives users an immediate overview of information, tasks and navigation.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV “6.0” will ship with a robust platform based on .NET that will expose configurable Web-Services so developers can use the existing Microsoft Dynamics NAV development environment to build and customize Web-Services based on standard definitions (SOAP/WSE). A toolbox will be available for making C/AL code accessible from a Web-Service.

For a full description of the innovations shipping with Microsoft Dynamics NAV “6.0” please consult the Statement of Direction available on PartnerSource

We are fully committed to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0
We are fully committed to helping our partners sell more Microsoft Dynamics NAV and have already initiated several marketing activities to promote sales. A more comprehensive “Sell More” package with additional sales tools for Microsoft Dynamics NAV (both 4.0 and 5.0) will be available in Q4 CY2007.

Information will be available on an ongoing basis on the "Sell More" landing page.

Our commitment to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 includes:

More time to realize the full potential of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 is a significant release. We are just now beginning to gain ground and capitalize on this fantastic product since its release on March 30, 2007. Pushing back the release date of Microsoft Dynamics NAV “6.0” helps minimize the risk of slowing sales of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0.

In addition to the potential for driving new sales of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0, the existing customer strategy has not changed. If the customer is running Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 or an earlier version, then we recommend upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 now to gain immediate business advantage from the enhanced application functionality in the solution. If the customer is specifically interested in implementing a RoleTailored solution, it still makes sound business sense to implement Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 first and then migrate to the Microsoft Dynamics RoleTailored Client when it becomes available in Microsoft Dynamics NAV “6.0”.

In short, the best way to prepare for Microsoft Dynamics NAV “6.0” is to upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0. This approach will allow customers to familiarize themselves with the solution’s application functionality, and gain more insight into how implementing a RoleTailored approach, and the technology enhancements in Microsoft Dynamics NAV “6.0”, will benefit their business.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 SP1
We are pleased to announce a Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0, which we will deliver to selected countries in Q1 CY2008. A more detailed list of country availability will be communicated soon. SP1 will include a number of quality enhancements, performance enhancements on Microsoft SQL Server, product planning engine re-factoring and costing enhancements. Please note the final content of SP1 is subject to change.

More countries on Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0
As previously announced, nine new countries will be available in the December 2007 and January 2008 time frame: Finland, Iceland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore and Thailand. For an updated GA date, please visit PartnerSource here.

New Jobs Granule Promotion Campaign
We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the recently announced campaign on the new Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 Jobs functionality. From October 1st, 2007 to March 31st, 2008, partners are able to sell the complete Jobs granule as part of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 Business Essentials Edition for USD 4500. This granule is normally only available as part of the Advanced Management Edition but will be sold – for a limited time only – as part of the Business Essentials package. For more information please consult the Jobs Granule Promotion Campaign page.

More time to strengthen your integration technology skills
Finally, we believe it’s crucial to the success of the product that our partners and ISVs develop and strengthen their integration technology skills. This is not new to Microsoft Dynamics 6.0 as it has been a requirement since Microsoft Dynamics 4.0 and more so with Microsoft Dynamics 5.0. Pushing back the launch date will give us more time to help you get ready.
