Hi,
Does anyone know what causes these errors and how to prevent them?
Locked by another user -> Journal Line Dimension Table
-> General Journal Dimension Table
We are running on SQL2000 and Windows Server 2003.
Any help or breadcrumbs would be appreciated.
tks,
d.

Are you an enduser or a navision partner?
If you are enduser you should contact your navision partner and he should sent you a specialist to review the locking.
If you are a partner you need to search the forum about locking and deadlocking issues. There are performance tuning guides provided by Microsoft.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I'm an end user who supports Navision from within our companies I.T. department. I sent an email to our MS Navision Partner who customized the system for us but have had no replies.
I'll search the forum in more detail to see what can be found.
Thanks,

OK.
Locking issues can be very complicated and have to be looked at by a profesional in order not to make it worse.
If you have more information on how the locking is created maybe we can work out a solution,0 -
1) The locking message is connected to new feature in 4.00SP1 - Lock timeout. This timeout can be set in File-Database-Alter dialog. There is 10seconds by default (in previous versions it was 0 - infinite)
2) If you have too much locking errors, you can:
a) set longer timeout (but this is not solution, it is just shifting the time limit)
b) optimize your server Hardware (you need to do the work as fast as possible to not lock others...)
c) optimize your DB
d) optimize the application
e) reorganize the processes0 -

Can you please describe How to do the each one so that we all will be very thankful to you? Zst waiting for your wonderful explanation on each one.
Regards in advanceDilip

Sorry gdkve9, but that's all what I will write. There is more info about each point on this forum, and all this is know-how which cannot be transfered through forum posts... May be someone other will give you the info there, but I recommending to go through this forum, downloading videos about the optimization etc.0

I think this pretty much sums up where we are heading.
If we start to answer a question when we know that the answer will be used wrongly by someone else, it starts a chain of events.
Forums are a great place to learn and to find tricks and tips, but they can never replace proper training.
You need to go to your boss, and tell him that the company needs to either A/ invest in proper training, or B/ get out of the software business, and sell something else.
PS Kamil sorry to say it, but you brought this on your self.David Singleton0 -

Since I know how some "developers" read posts in this forum, I just want to emphasize this :kine wrote:but this is not solution
Because I just know that in a months time someone will read this post, set time out to 10 minutes and say "Hey boss look how great I am I solved it".David Singleton0 -
