activating item tracking on a existing item

I want to activate item tracking on an existing item which already has some item entries.

Normally Navision doesn't allow to activate item tracking on an item with entries and i have to create a new item with the same description. But this is not an option for me because i need te maintain the same item No.

So I've created a workaround.
I've put the inventory of the item on 0.
I've disabeld the ledger entry control.
I've activated the item tracking code.
And I posted the inventory using the item tracking functionality.

Now everything seems to work nicely. \:D/

But i have some questions:
Is there anybody out there who has experience with this and knows any problem using this workaround ?

Why does microsoft has a ledger entry control instead of an inventory control on the item tracking code ? #-o
Realisations are only limited by the borders of imagination

    Dear Rule,

    I need to assign a lot tracking no. to existing items (with entries) and, after searching this forum, was very glad to find your post.

    I was wondering if, in the meantime, you had come accross some problems using this workaround ?

    I want to do the exact same thing you did.
