Treating strings as integers

Does anyone know how to convert string variables to integer? I only know that I can use the INCSTR-function to increment strings, but I want to convert strings to integers and the help isn't very useful I'm afraind.
If someone could tell me how to display integers like 20041 at 200410 (always 4 digits for a year, and two for a month), the problem would also be solved, but I couldn't find the right syntax for the FORMAT-funciton.

Thank you. Didn't know this, and it isn't really a logical function to search for
But now I can continue developing the report I'm making
