Dimensions in Production Orders

If anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I am extremely new to Axapta. The version we are running is Axapta 3.0 SP4.
Currently when I create a purchase order, my purchase order inherits the dimensions from the Inventory Item that we are creating the Purchase order on. Once the Purchase order has been created, if I go to the "Dimension Tab" the "Department", "Region", and "Plant Site" are all filled in. Now, when I click the "Route" button and it brings up the route, the "Region" and "Plant" site are the only dimensions that are filled from the Production order. Does anyone know what could be stopping the "Department" Dimension from propagating down to the route?
thanks.

Hi
The dimensions from the route will change depending upon the line of the route you are looking at. At this level they come from the work centre, so have a look there, you should find the dimension is not populated. The art of teaching is clarity and the art of learning is to listen0 -
You are correct, the dimension is not populated in the Work Center. However, I thought that if it was filled in, in the work Center then it would populate from there, else it would propagate from the production order. My other dimensions , "Region", and "Plant Site", are populating from the production order as they are not populated on the Work Center.0

My understanding is the routing dimensions come from the work centre. You can alter the dimensions on the production order, but these will not affect the route, the route can have a different dimension driven by the line of the routing.
I am assuming you are referring to the dimensions on the production order, and not altering them on the route on the production order. I am also assuming you are still talking about the dimensions on the route and are not elsewhere further down the line!
You should note that even if you alter the work centre on the route of the production order the dimensions are not updated, these remain as the original. I would say they are copied from the work centre set against the routing line at the creation of the works order and nothing updates them unless you do (not a fan of this, if you update the work centre the dimensions should update as well).
That said I am just looking at this as you ask. There maybe more to the Dimension setup that I am simply not aware of, no expert in this area I am afraid. The art of teaching is clarity and the art of learning is to listen0 -
Thanks for the replies. Everything you have said makes absolute sense. As with you, I am learning this as I go. Thanks for your time, and your posts.0
