Navision 3.70 Financial Reporting Query

Hi
Can anyone help with detailing how Navision 3.70 can best address the following financial period reporting?
Requirement for weekly accounting periods based on a Thursday /Wednesday week, and monthly summary accounting periods based on four or five weeks.
All Navision enquiries and reports to reflect these accounting periods including on 1-7-31-3-12 type enquiries - eg "7" must display data for Thursday/Wednesday weeks; "31" must display data for user defined 4 or 5 week groupings not calendar months etc.
Client undertakes significant year-on-year reporting comparing a month/year-to-date last year with the same month/year-to-date this year. Given that months are groups of weeks, the dates vary - eg August in Financial Year 2004 has different start and end dates than August in Financial Year 2005 but August 2004 must be compared with August 2005.
Thx

Hi Kerry
When I was in the UK we had the same problems around 4-4-5 accounting periods. In the end a change was made by the UK to get round it that gave a custom setup and then the option to look at the custom periods.
I remember that it was not an easy thing to put in place.
Message me if you want more info.

Hi Kerry,
I'm afraid I can't help you with a solution within Navision, but there is a possibility outside Navision I would like to share with you.
If reporting outside Navision is no problem then I would like to suggest to take a look at Jet Reports. It's an addin for Excel that allows you to easily retrieve your data from your Navision database and build your own reports in Excel. E.g. you may enter the database, the table, the field you want to retrieve and the filters you need for that.
In your case it's good to know that you can also access the Date-table from Navision. This table contains all dates from 1-1-0000 .. 31-12-9999. It also knows which week and which day in the week each date is. So by entering the right filters in the Jet reports function you can define your own periods, e.g. from Thursday..Wednesday.
Does this information help you?Kind regards,
Hans Fousert

Fellows, I appreciate your comments and help.
Ian - Good stuff, and good feedback.
Hans- I like Jet reports and your suggestion is a good one. In this instance, I'd like to show financial results using the standard trendscape / form views in Navision.
Thx to Mibuso for an excellent medium for the exchange of ideas and experiences.
Best Regards

How about in Calendar Select, accounting period, week. Use functions to copy systems dates then functions change dates to adjust them to the required time.
Used this successfully to change to a Sun-sat week.
Months was a bit more manual having to set up each period start individually and using functions correct gaps to set closing dates
Remember to set the calendar not to use the system month and week.

Probably missed steps out but it doe work0
