Hi NG,
we project to update our Navision Database Server and our Clients from Version 3.60 to 3.70B or 4.00. We avoid to update the database itself because we have realized a lot of customization and a complete update will cost a lot of money...
Now my two questions:
1. which Version (3.70B or 4.00) would you prefer for a technical update and why? :?:
2. Exists any howto (I know I have to update the Clients, and I have to update the server components, but where I have to pay attention, where are the difficulties and so on)? :-k
Thx a lot for your help!
greetings,
Kai

Best to choose for the 4.00 (will be supported for a longer period than the 3.70 version)
HowTo's:-
1. Shut down the 3.60 Database server,
2. Connect to the database file with a 4.00 client (the client will aks if you want to convert the DB to the new version, click OK),
3. Setup the 4.00 Database server and connect it to the converted DB file and remove the 3.60 Database server,
4. Install the 4.00 Clients on the PC's and remove the 3.60 clients,
5. Connect to the new 4.00 Database Server with the 4.00 Clients.
Hope this helps! Now, let's see what we can see.

Thx for your answer.
We don't want to migrate/upgrade the database, only the server and the client application should have the new versions to benefit from the debugger features and so on. But to make sure that all customizations will work without making any changes in objects, we dont want to update database...
Should we calculate any difficulties?
I have done this on a test system last week and it seems to work (1. installation client 3.70B, 2. shutdown database, 3. overwrite server components with new versions -just copying-, 4. start database) but I can not evaluate if all we work as it should.
Anyone with experience in updating server and client without updating database (native, not SQL)?
Thx a lot

We've done a few technical upgrades from 3.60 to 4.00 and, so far, we did not receive any errors.
The only thing you will have to take a look at is the menu pane system.
Otherwise should be no problem. Now, let's see what we can see.
