I'm currently running NAV2009R2, and was wondering how NAV is using the "Source Type" and "Source No." fields in General Ledger Entry (GLE) table, like reports or other flowfields.
My client was asking me that they want to be able to enter the "Source No." field on the General Journal page, for G/L Account entries, and since both "Source Type" and "Source No." are available in the table, and were editable by default, I found no conflict in giving them access to the fields and having them change the "Source No." and "Source Type" (the only modification would be to make the field editable ONLY when the Account No. is "G/L Account".)
But because I may be overlooking at some of the core logic of NAV, so I would greatly appreciate your advice on this matter, whether I should not let them modify the "Source Type" and "Source No." when they are entering G/L Account.
Thank you.

Those fields are used during posting. NAV populates a temp Gen journal line and post it.
So if a user populates them, it would be no different.

Thank you for your reply.
What I was worried about was since entering "G/L Account" won't update the "Source Type" and "Source No.", I was thinking maybe there was a reason why they leave it blank. But I guess that may not be the case.
And as for the reporting side, do you know if I supply "Customer" Source information to "G/L Account", then the NAV will miscalculate some of the amounts?
I've been testing on whether the reports are safe from this change, or not, but haven't encountered one, yet.
Thank you.
