Hi everyone,

I’m working on a hobby project to study and recreate the UX of the old Navision 3.56 client as a modern Rust-based terminal application.

I’ve already got the engine running in DOSBox-X, but I’m missing the original demo license and demo database, for example Cronus, database.fin, or cronus.fin.

If anyone has an old W1 or DK demo version lying around and would be open to sharing it, it would be a huge help. Any 3.5x version would be useful for UI and UX research.

This is only for research and historical reference.

Thanks!

Hi,
In the company I am working we have an old Danish Navision installation running that is highly modified in order to steer some production machines.

The database is running on a server with Windows server 2007. We have a lot of problems to have the environment stopped and started again for backups.
Weekly we suffer from the fact the service running the database is not able to stop and remains in status stopping.
Rebooting the server normally does the trick to start it again. But even that is sometimes not working after one reboot.

Has anybody an idea on solving this issue?

Furthermore I get questions about upgrading to a newer version.
Is there still an upgrade path available for this version?

Would it be correct to say that to add 6,000 more employees, while at the same time recording payroll history of the past 8 years, one would do the following multiplication:

80GB * 7 = 560GB of disk space used after addition ??

I am needing to forecast the disk usage prior to converting and bringing the 6,000 wmployees into the Navision payroll system.

Any ideas? From what I have read from some users, it would seem that there may be too many indexes against the payroll database.

Has anyone else experienced any funnies in this report in 3.7?

If we post a Sales invoice, part pay it, then run this report and specifying "Print Details" on the options tab, we notice that the original amount shows the transaction balance for the part paid invoice, and the balance shows the original amount. When viewed from elsewhere, the postings appear to be correct.

Interestingly enough, if I go into the report designer section view and look at the source expression for these two fields, they do appear to be the wrong way around i.e. Original amount is sourced from "Remaining amount" and balance from "Amount (LCY)".

I have configured different paper trays for each printer and configured it on Navision 3.56a (DOS :-) ) to take at selection the printer share for white paper.
But it doesn't matter which printer i take, the documents will be printed every day on white paper (tray 1) and not with business paper (tray 2)

Hi All,
We are trying to upgrade a NAVISION 3.56 (DOS) to NAV2009, so it will be running stable on Server 2008/2012.
NAV2009 is able to process the backup, nice. Strange thing is, it is only restoring Tables + Data, into the 50000 object range. Problem is, it is only restoring Tables, not other object. (We are sure we are using a full backup)
It should be possible to restore Forms (windows) Reports an Code (functions).
Does anybody remember how to backup and restore objects from the DOS version. Tried to figure out myself, but the only version available is Danish, so that is not helping either.

Hello.

We recently had a complete computer crash and the only thing that's left of navision is a backup file named backup_001.#bk . The system has not been reconfigured since 1994 and the guy responsible for is not available. So we have no access to binaries, install disks, etc..

Is there a way to access the data in the backup file by converting it to some other readable format?
Other ways to get the data?

The version were 3.62 and besides that, I have no further details.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there again,

since you helped me through this once, I got a lot of additional know how. But the best is that I now know for sure that there is in fact an upgrade toolkit from 3.xx blue to 2.60 Financials. It consists of a report for the blue version and a couple of reports and codeunits for Financials. Meanwhile I also found a manual which describes this package in nearly 500 pages. So I am looking for this toolkit, but I cannot find it anywhere.

Does anybody have this kit? German version is preferred but any other is accepted as well. Thanks for your help!

Hi there,

I have this situation:
Navision 3.56 database in two files with no extension. Now I need the data to be converted into preferably mySQL database to use it in a PHP web application.
Also there should be regular updates of the mySQL db with new data from Navision db.

Im really confused about how to access the Navision and query it. I understand from the documentation that there is some Application Language that can be used to do that but surely there are some ways (tools) to do it right?

I would very much appreciate any ideas on how to carry this out.

Hi there,

I would like to upgrade from a DOS based version 3.53 to the latest Dynamics NAV. I just need the data since program code is near the standard edition.

What are recommended upgrade steps?

I would go this way:
Read 3.53 backup into a 2.6 Financials
Upgrade from 2.6 to 4.0 SP3
Upgrade from 4.0 SP3 to 5.0 SP1.

Any other ideas? Does anybody know if there is an upgrade toolkit that must be applied after reading the backup file into the 2.6 financials.

Thanks in advance for your advice!
